Using Fashion to tell a story

Image
The vogue article I came across today is about a s olo show at the Perez Art museum inMiami entitled “While the Dew Is still on the Roses” by Jamaican artist EbonyG. Patterson. The scene at first glance appears to be a serene moonlit garden, including crochet flowers, banana leaves dusted with glitter plastered on the walls among other things. However, when one looks closer, discarded pieces of clothing, dismembered black and brown hands and feet can be seen entangled in the lush flora and fauna of her work. Patterson’s art confronts death head on, even though it seems to be teeming with life on the surface. Her pieces are designed to bring up and engage discussion about problems such as race and social injustice that we still find in society, in which fashion and style play an important role.  Christian Louboutin himself commented on Patterson`s work:  Ebony G. Patterson, Christian Louboutin Her work manages to combine two very disparate things—beauty and violence—to

The problem of the shaping of the fashion industry.

Fashion stylist named Grace Woodward has worked for several known clients including the X Factor, Agent Provocateur and Britain`s next top model. In the article Woodward talks about how she never felt like she belonged, even though she loves clothes, not feeling like she is thin enough. I found this interesting as Woodward`s story shows the other side of the fashion industry, not just as it appears. The fashion industry offers glamour, adventure and excitement for those who are willing.  However, it can get messy as there are many pressures and expectations that come about that not many talk about, maybe because it might jeopardize their career. This not only involves those who are actually in it, but also their followers, the people they influence, us. The naked truth: the Instagram post that changed everything for Woodward. Fashion is supposed to help us express ourselves and help us feel powerful and confident in our body, not the body we think is fit. This resul

Fashion serving as a source to honour late former American President.

Fashion can, and is most of the time, used to make a statement. Some people have their own little quirks regarding fashion, such as loving to wear different and patterned ties every day or socks, which becomes a part of who they are, their identity. As was the case of the late former American president George H.W Bush who was known to love wearing colorful, graphic socks for all occasions. This post is about how the world has said goodbye to the former president George H.W Bush over the last few days. It comments on how people around the country have chosen the express their admiration by the unofficial gesture of using socks. It sounds weird when you first hear of it, socks? Even the hashtag #SocksforBush was created by students. However, it`s not only students that are doing this, even business owners were encouraging their employees to wear wacky socks in honor of Mr. Bush. There are several Instagram posts where people showcase their socks and write some short meaningful word

What is fashion?

We find fashion all around us and we deal with it every day. Not everyone has the same thoughts about fashion. There are those whose life is dedicated to fashion, there are those who consider it important but not so much and then there are those who say they don`t care. However, for those who say they don`t care about fashion, what they choose to wear every morning still says a lot about them. One sure thing about fashion is change. There are constantly new ideas and inspirations from various sources such as books, videos, music and television. One single movie can have an impact on what people wear for a while. “Fashion is part of the daily air and it changes all the time, with all the events. You can even see the approaching of a revolution in clothes. You can see and feel everything in clothes.” — Diana Vreeland . What people wear says a lot about them and clothes can also separate us into groups, which also creates stereotypes. There are many reasons which affects

Maltese Language at risk

My name is Sherose Cassar and I am currently studying at the University of Malta. In my first blog post I decided to tackle the issue discussed by MEP Francis Zammit Dimech who talks about the Maltese language and the risk it is facing not having much representation online. Being Maltese and a communication studies student I believe this is a very important topic and should be discussed more as it would be a shame for such a beautiful and unique language to die out.  According to MEP Francis Zammit Dimech the Maltese language is facing the risk of "digital extinction" due to the lack of technology support. Dr. Zammit Dimech said that the Maltese language should be well integrated and used on digital platforms and also through digital assistants such as Siri and Alexa, adding that it is everyone's responsibility to ensure this takes place. "The Maltese language is part of out national identity, which makes us proud of who we are. That is why I believe it is impor
