What is fashion?

We find fashion all around us and we deal with it every day. Not everyone has the same thoughts about fashion. There are those whose life is dedicated to fashion, there are those who consider it important but not so much and then there are those who say they don`t care. However, for those who say they don`t care about fashion, what they choose to wear every morning still says a lot about them.

One sure thing about fashion is change. There are constantly new ideas and inspirations from various sources such as books, videos, music and television. One single movie can have an impact on what people wear for a while.

“Fashion is part of the daily air and it changes all the time, with all the events. You can even see the approaching of a revolution in clothes. You can see and feel everything in clothes.” —Diana Vreeland.

What people wear says a lot about them and clothes can also separate us into groups, which also creates stereotypes.

There are many reasons which affects our choice of what we wear. One of the reasons is according to  the weather. How we are feeling whether we are happy or sad also affects what we wear. Physical attraction is also another reason. Another reason is identification and tradition: judges wear robes, people in the military wear uniforms, brides wear long white dresses. One cannot also forget religious expression.

The fashion industry is a bug business. It includes the sketching, making, production, transporting, selling and buying clothes and accessories. Whether we notice it or not, ads, billboards and magazines also leave an impact on us and influence our fashion choices.

When asked “What is fashion?”, international Fashion Editor Cynthia Durcanin says that fashion is a state of mind. A spirit, an extension of one’s self. Fashion talks, it can be an understated whisper, a high-energy scream or an all knowing wink and a smile. Most of all fashion is about being comfortable with yourself, translating self-esteem into a personal style.
